| There are a
number of additional services that we offer to our patients.
They are briefly described below. These offerings have been
created with our patients in mind. The telephone triage nurses
are here to provide timely information for your questions.
Doing ultrasounds in our office allows you to have this done
in a familiar setting, at your convenience, with the results
quickly forwarded to our doctors. Your labwork can again be
done at our facility, saving you another stop.
Since many of our patients’ partners don’t have a relationship
with a physician who does vasectomies, it becomes awkward
for the man to proceed with this procedure. Again, our familiar
surroundings make this event not as threatening.
Finally, we offer a comprehensive program for osteoporosis.
This quiet disease affects more
than 10 million Americans and unfortunately most do not know
they have it. Evaluating risk
factors, having a DXA exam and counseling on diet and exercise
are all offered here at VOB.

Telephone Triage Nurses:
We have staffed our office with nurses dedicated to answering
your questions in a timely fashion for over 30 years. These
RN’s have had experience in hospitals, county health programs
and in physician offices. With over 20 years of VOB experience,
they are knowledgeable in your concerns and questions. They
have access to our physicians and can provide quick and accurate
answers to many of your immediate questions.

Ultrasounds: We
currently have two General Electric Logiq 5 imaging units
that can perform any and all necessary OB and GYN ultrasounds.
Unlike those done at a hospital, you will know the critical
results of the ultrasound on the day of the exam. This is
especially important when, for example, you are concerned
about the lack of movement of the baby. Besides you receiving
the results on that day, your doctor will also get the results
that day or the next day they are in. (If they are out, another
covering VOB doctor will be available to review the results.)

Labwork: Depending
on what your insurance company requires, your bloodwork can
be done either here at our office or at an area hospital.
For your convenience, we have made arrangements with Quest,
a national laboratory, to perform blood draws in our office.
Their website is www.questdiagnostics.com.
If your insurance requires you to have this work done at a
local hospital, we can provide the necessary paperwork for
you to go there.

Vasectomy: Many
of our patients’ partners do not know who to go to for this
procedure. If this method is chosen for birth control, both
parties must realize that this operation is basically non-reversible.
Below is an illustrative summary of the visits that the man
will experience:
- Visit 1: Thorough medical exam
- Counseling (including a videotape) on details of the
procedure
- Visit 2: Vasectomy is performed
- A specimen is sampled later to confirm the procedure’s
success

- Osteoporosis Program:
This disease is more than just the curvature of the spine
that your grandmother had. Loss of bone material can make
them more susceptible for fracture, like the hip fracture
Aunt Mary had when she stumbled and fell.
There are a number of risk factors that should be considered.
Among them are the onset of menopause, a thin frame, lack
of exercise, a diet low in calcium and the usual suspects
(smoking, caffeine and alcohol). Your provider can review
all the factors at an office visit.
An accurate diagnosis can be done by having a bone mineral
density measurement with a Dual energy X-ray Absorptionetry
(DXA) exam. VOB has a Hologic QDR4500C machine for this
purpose. This is the “gold standard” for this type of measurement,
not the heel measurement that you may have at the mall or
fitness center.
Using the results of the DXA exam and the risk factors will
allow our providers to develop a plan specifically designed
for you to combat this disease. At your followup visit, you
will be counseled on changing your diet, possible use of the
correct calcium supplements, and an enhanced exercise regimen.
We will want to followup with another DXA exam in two years
to see if there has been an improvement. |
