Ultrasound is a procedure which uses high frequency sound
waves rather than x-rays to detect abnormalities in the pelvis
as well as to determine fetal age and placental localization
in pregnancies.
INSTRUCTIONS:
To do this examination properly, YOU MUST HAVE A FULL BLADDER.
If you are pregnant, the full bladder is necessary to indicate
where the border of the uterus starts. If there is an abnormality
in the pelvis, it cannot be detected unless the BLADDER IS
COMPLETELY FULL.
In order for the bladder to be full enough for the examination
to be done, finish drinking three 8 oz. glasses of liquid
one hour before your appointment. You may drink any clear
liquid. (This does not include milk.) You may also eat. Do
not void (urinate) until after your ultrasound. You need to
be at the office five minutes before your appointment to register.
Please be on time.
If you are unable to keep your appointment, please call (989)
753-8453 to reschedule as soon as you are aware that you will
not be able to keep your appointment.
ATTENTION:
Do not bring children with you as they are not allowed in
the ultrasound room and we have no one to care for them. ONLY
ONE PERSON IS ALLOWED TO COME INTO THE ROOM WITH YOU.
NO VIDEO TAPING, DIGITAL IMAGING OR OTHER RECORDING OF THE
ULTRASOUND EXAM IS ALLOWED. We will provide you with up to
three free pictures of the unborn baby.
Also, the sex of your baby is best determined after 20 weeks,
however this IS NOT a medical reason to have an ultrasound
and is not a guarantee that the sex of your baby will be determined.
