back to delivery
When it is time to deliver your fetus, there are basically
two options that can be chosen.
The first is a normal vaginal
delivery. In this instance, the baby is delivered through
the vagina.
The second option is a Cesarean Section
(C-Section). In this instance, incisions are made in the
abdomen and the uterus, and the baby is delivered through
these incisions, not through the vagina.
While most deliveries are done vaginally, there are reasons
why your physician may choose to do a C-Section. Among these
reasons are:
- Failure for labor to progress
- Concern for the health of the baby and/or mother
- Problems with the placenta
- Breech (feet and/or buttocks, not the head) presentation
of the baby
- Multiple babies (twins, etc)
- Previous C-Section
Another option is called a Vaginal Birth After
C-Section, or VBAC. As the name indicates, you
wish to attempt to have a normal vaginal delivery for this
baby even though your previous baby was delivered via C-Section.
Your provider will discuss these options with you during
your prenatal care. While your provider will try to accommodate
your wishes, the health of you and your baby are our first
priority when it comes time for the delivery.
If you and your partner have decided that you want no more
children after this one, you may want to talk to your physician
about doing a permanent, non-reversible sterilization procedure
after a C-Section called a tubal ligation. |
